It’s hard to believe that it’s already been more than 30 years since “Home Alone” was released. The beloved comedy film was first released in 1990, directed byChris Columbusand written byJohn Hughes. It has since gone on to become one of the most adored films of all time and is still known as not only a classic comedy but a great film to watch during the holiday season. Principal photography took place from February 14, 1990, to May 8, 1990, over a course of 83 days. It was built in the gym and empty swimming pool of the former New Trier High School building, previously used by Hughes for Uncle Buck and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, where the production company had already set up its offices.
The tree house in the back yard was built specifically for the film and dismantled after filming ended. The church exteriors were shot at Trinity United Methodist Church in Wilmette, Illinois, while the interiors were shot at Grace Episcopal Church in Oak Park, Illinois. After a decade away from the big screen, Home Alone is finally returning in 2021 with Disney+’s upcoming release, Home Sweet Home Alone. Different rumors of new movies set in the beloved holiday franchise have circulated for years, and Disney’s soft reboot was formally announced in 2019. Scheduling changes and production delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic have pushed Home Sweet Home Alone out a bit further than initially expected, but finally, the new movie is almost here.
Casting
In recent years, O'Hara has been known best for her role as Moira Rose in Schitt's Creek. The acclaimed actor has received multiple prestigious accolades for her Schitt's Creek performance, including two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe. Other cast members, such as Joe Pesci and Kristin Minter, have also enjoyed impressive film careers. The sixth film in the Home Alone franchise, Home Sweet Home Alone was produced by 20th Century Studios as an original title for Disney+, the first 20th Century Studios film to be produced for the streaming service. The film was announced after The Walt Disney Company acquired 21st Century Fox and inherited the rights to the Home Alone franchise.
Harry and Marv break in, spring the traps, and suffer various injuries. While Harry and Marv pursue Kevin around the house, he calls the police and lures the duo into a vacant neighboring house which they had previously broken into. Harry and Marv ambush Kevin and prepare to get their revenge, but Marley intervenes and knocks them out with his snow shovel.

Kevin wakes to find the house empty, and the family cars still in the garage, unaware that they had rented vans to take them to the airport. Thinking that his wish has come true, he is overjoyed with his newfound freedom. Later, Kevin becomes frightened by his next door neighbor, "Old Man" Marley, who is rumored to be a serial killer who murdered his own family.

On March 15, 2012, ABC Family announced the development of the fifth installment in the Home Alone series.

In August 2021, it was announced that Devin Ratray, who played Buzz McCallister in the first two films, would appear. Home Alone was the number-one film at the box office for 12 consecutive weeks, from its release weekend of November 16–18, 1990 through the weekend of February 1–3, 1991. It was removed from the top spot when Sleeping with the Enemy opened with $13 million. It remained in the top ten until the weekend of April 26, well past Easter weekend. It made two more appearances in the top ten (the weekend of May 31 – June 2 and the weekend of June 14–16) before finally falling out of the top ten.
The role of Uncle Frank was written for Kelsey Grammer, but was given to Gerry Bamman when Grammer was unavailable. "It's bigger than any actor's ego. Overhearing them talk about getting an "ugly little boy", Max assumes they are talking about kidnapping and selling him. Max fears if Officer McCallister realizes he is home alone, his parents may get arrested. Jeff and Pam McKenzie are trying to sell their house, but have not told their children, Abby and Chris.
